Public access, member tools and Library requests
Membership is useful for users who need additional data to support professional work, connecting public discovery to detailed Wellcard records, online log access, private projects and PxTools Workbench analysis. Memberships also support the OGSR Library, a not-for-profit corporation, in continuing its work to deliver these data.

What changes when you sign in
Find wells
- Visitor: Simple Search, Advanced Search, Well Map, PxTools KMZ and public result exports.
- Annual member: all public search, detailed geological search and longer question-style member search AI.
- Library service: staff can help with difficult identities, legacy records and custom research requests.
Read a Wellcard
- Visitor: identity, location, status context and the public “what exists” inventory.
- Annual member: detailed geology, initial records, construction, completion, plugging, analyses, production, reported-log detail and member well-file content where available.
- Library service: original or unscanned material may be consulted in the physical Library or supplied by request.
View core and chip photos
- Visitor: public viewers, image controls, measurement, downloads and photo map layers.
- Annual member: public imagery plus formation and oil/gas/water depth context, unlimited online chip viewing, self-serve chip viewing in the Library, and core viewing by arrangement. Warehouse fees may apply to core viewing.
- Library service: physical core and cuttings can be viewed by arrangement; copies or related data can be requested.
View geophysical logs
- Visitor: public inventories and a short preview when a scanned log is online.
- Annual member: limited full scanned-log viewing, plus member inventory detail.
- Additional access: Unlimited Log Viewing removes the online viewing cap; LAS files and other copies can be requested.
Keep a project
- Visitor: search and open records during the current research session.
- Annual member: PxTools Workbench projects, Pinned, private tags and notes, saved working sets, member tables and maps.
- Library service: contact staff for a custom extract or help locating physical holdings.
Draw sections and fences
- Visitor: standalone 2D and a small public 3D Fence example/workflow.
- Annual member: send tagged project selections to XSEC and FENCE; member 3D capacity and geological picks.
- Additional option: export the 3D fence as floating KML for use with other Google Earth research layers.
Access can vary by record
Reporting standards have varied widely over time, and records for different wells do not always contain the same information. The Library works to make the contents of reported well records available online, but physical well files and digital holdings can differ; reporting history can mean that information is unavailable for some wells.
Some wells on the landscape may never have been reported, or may have no records submitted, and will be absent from the database. For historical and legacy locations, Wellcards, map layers and the PxTools KMZ can still help identify available information, including scanned maps and hard-copy material.
Use the fastest way to find an answer
- If you know the licence or name, search Wellcards, confirm the identity and inspect the availability summary.
- If you only know the place, open the Well Map or use county, township, lot/concession, address or radius fields.
- If you need to compare wells, sign in, gather them into a PxTools Workbench project, tag the comparison set and use the project tools.
- If you need a physical or unlinked record, visit by arrangement or ask Library staff for the licence, record type, interval and preferred format.
Online discovery can lead to physical holdings
The Wellcard, map and PxTools KMZ help identify a well and the materials associated with it. Core, drill cuttings, paper files, logs and other holdings may be inspected at the Library by arrangement. Bring or send the normalized licence and any depth or record details you already know.

- County, township and land description
- Record type: log, core, chips, scan, analysis, production or another file
- Depth interval, log type, core number or date range
- Your preferred digital or physical format
